WhatsApp Making Phone Contact Sync Toggle for Linked Devices Says Report

WhatsApp is rolling out a new privacy-related feature for managing synced contacts for Android. As per information shared by the feature tracker, the feature could add new functions to the multi-account feature that allows users to use two WhatsApp accounts on the same device without using parallel apps. With this change, users can choose how they want to sync their address book contacts. This builds on other beta features recently introduced on WhatsApp for Android, including a new shortcut for marking all chats as read at once.

WhatsApp contact syncing feature

Features Tracker WABetaInfo AccordingThe contact syncing feature will allow users to manage the synchronization of their address book when using WhatsApp on multiple devices. It was spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.14. When it is finally rolled out, users will reportedly be able to select the contacts they want to sync to their phone for multiple accounts. As per the screenshots shared by the feature tracker, it appears with a new UI with Keep your contacts separate for each account. Apart from contact syncing management, it also works as a feature to let users manage WhatsApp contacts from linked devices.

WABetaInfo claims that the new shortcut is still a work in progress and is not even available to registered beta testers through the Google Play Beta program. It could be rolled out with an upcoming update of WhatsApp for Android. However, it is worth noting that WhatsApp may be working on several new features, but not all of them make it to the public version of the app.

whatsapp chat management

WhatsApp is testing another feature for better chat management on Android. After its rollout, users may have the option to clear their unread message numbers by marking all messages as read with a new option appearing in the overflow menu at the top right corner of the screen. It is also speculated that it is working on a similar ‘Mark Read’ feature on the iOS version of the app, as the messaging platform usually offers feature parity across its apps for iOS and Android smartphones.
