TRAI disconnected 2.75 lakh numbers, 50 firms blacklisted making spam calls

TRAI: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken major action against the firms which harass people by making unnecessary calls. About 50 unregistered tele marketing firms have been blacklisted. 2 lakh 75 thousand numbers have been disconnected, these include mobile numbers as well as numbers which harass people by using SIP, DID and other telecom resources. This action has been taken under ‘Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation 2018 Rules’.

According to reports, TRAI has said that spam calls are increasing. In the first half of this year, between January and June, more than 7 lakh 90 thousand complaints were received against unregistered telemarketers. After this, TRAI gave strict instructions to telecom companies to shut down such firms and disconnect the numbers associated with them.

On 28 August, TRAI has also proposed changes in anti-spam regulations. The proposal states that those telephone customers who make calls or SMS more than the daily limit should be investigated as spam callers. Telecom providers have been asked not to allow messages that contain URLs, APKs, OTT links and unapproved call bank numbers. TRAI believes that its decisions will reduce spam calls. Mobile users will get relief.

It is worth noting that the number of spam calls has increased a lot in recent times. Almost everyone is troubled by calls coming from unwanted numbers. In most cases, these calls are made for cheating, fraud. If you are also troubled by such calls, then you can put them in the block list. Also stay away from messages coming from such numbers, because clicking on the link given with the message can be dangerous.
