Jio Airtel Vi record customer loss post tariff hike BSNL becomes only gainer in July

When telecom operators increased the prices of their recharge plans a few weeks ago, the companies suffered huge losses. The latest data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India says that after the tariff hike, India’s three major telecom operators Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have suffered huge loss of customers. All these three telecom operators lost customers in July.

According to the data of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio, Airtel and Vi lost 7.5 lakh, 10.69 lakh, and 10.41 lakh customers respectively at the end of July. After which the customer base of these companies decreased significantly. In this, Jio’s customers decreased to 475.76 million, Airtel’s to 387.32 million, and Vodafone’s to 215.88 million.

PTI According to the report, BSNL got the direct benefit of this. Customers who left Jio, Airtel, Vi shifted to BSNL. The government telecom company got the benefit of 20.93 lakh new users who joined it. After which the customer base of the company increased to 88.51 million.

Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) had increased their tariffs from 11 percent to 25 percent in July. Whereas BSNL did not increase its tariff plans. The impact of this move of the companies was widely seen on their market share. According to the report, Jio’s market share came down to 40.68 percent. Airtel’s came down to 33.12 percent. And Vodafone’s came down to 18.46 percent. In contrast, BSNL’s market share increased from 7.33 percent to 7.59 percent.

But Airtel was successful in adding users who used the company’s expensive services. The company added more than 20.5 lakh users of 4G and 5G services in July. Whereas Jio lost 7.6 lakh such high paying customers.
