Apple will bring jobs to India 6 lakh expected this year

The world’s leading tech company Apple is increasing its manufacturing in India. The people of the country are directly benefiting from this. According to a report by The Economic Times, Apple’s growing operations in India are expected to create 6 lakh jobs by the end of this financial year. The company is increasing production in India while reducing its dependence on work being done in China. Of the jobs that will be created in India due to this, most of the posts will be for women.

The report mentions some data which Apple and its suppliers have given to the government. These data and estimates have shown that by March next year, 2 lakh direct positions are expected to be created in Apple’s workforce in India, out of which about 70 percent of the posts will be for women.

The report, citing sources, said that Apple has given contracts to three companies in India. These include Foxconn, Wistron (now Tata Electronics) and Pegatron. The three companies have generated 80,872 direct jobs. Apart from this, big suppliers like Tata Group, Salcomp, Madrasan, Foxlink (in Tamil Nadu), Sunwoda (in Uttar Pradesh), ATL (in Haryana) and Jabil (in Maharashtra) have together created about 84 thousand direct jobs.

The report states that in recent years, Apple has emerged as a major employer in India, with a high participation of women and newcomers in its workforce. Since the launch of the smartphone PLI scheme in 2020, Apple vendors and suppliers have generated 1 lakh 65 thousand direct jobs in India.

The government has estimated that every direct position in the electronics industry creates three additional indirect jobs. This means that the Apple ecosystem could create 5 to 6 lakh jobs in India by the end of March.
