These 9 countries spent 91.4 billion dollars on nuclear weapons in 2023

Ican Report on Nuclear Weapons: 9 countries of the world have the status of nuclear-armed states. These include China, France, India, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, UK and America. You will be surprised to know that these countries are spending billions of dollars on the modernization and expansion of nuclear weapons. According to a report, last year i.e. in 2023, all the 9 countries spent a total of 91.4 billion dollars on this, which is 3 thousand dollars (about 2 lakh 50 thousand rupees) every second and 173,884 dollars (about 1.45 crore rupees) every minute.

The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (Ican) has Information America is at the forefront among the countries spending on nuclear weapons. It spent 51.5 billion dollars (about 4300 billion rupees) on the modernization and expansion of nuclear weapons in one year. This is 80 percent of the total expenditure.

After America, China comes next, which spent 11.8 billion dollars on nuclear weapons last year. Russia, which is embroiled in war, is also not far behind in spending on nuclear weapons. It spent 8.3 billion dollars last year. The United Kingdom is also increasing its expenditure on nuclear weapons. Last year, it increased its expenditure by 17 percent and spent 8.1 billion dollars on this work.

Ican says that in the last 5 years, 387 billion dollars have been spent on nuclear weapons and this expenditure has increased by 34 percent every year. According to the report, all the 9 nuclear-powered countries are constantly modernizing their weapons. Some are expanding them. The report’s co-author Alicia Sanders has said that the rapid increase in spending on these inhumane and destructive weapons is not improving global security but is posing a threat to it.

Interestingly, India’s expenditure on nuclear weapons last year was $2.7 billion and it was ahead of Israel, North Korea and Pakistan.
